Released on iOS / Android / Windows Store.
Handy is a small mobile app I created and still update regularly (usually once or twice a year, time permitting). It started out of a strong desire to use complicated hand reference more in my drawings, but I always found it frustrating when I needed to reference the hand I usually draw with. On top of that, some poses could only really be seen appropriately with a mirror, which if drawing at a cafe I likely didn't have on me.
There wasn't really anything on the AppStore I could find to make this easier, so I decided a 3D hand with a bunch of different poses would be a great opportunity to learn how to use Unity and also be a simple way to learn the trials and tribulations of putting an app out on the AppStore. So, with the help of my buddy Alex Hogan we found a 3D hand, rigged it up, and gave it a bunch of complicated saved poses that would be useful.
Ever since then it's been growing and doing fairly alright, gaining a feature from ImagineFX magazine and even getting some praise from famous comic book artists like Tony Moore. I've been updating it with more stuff like interactive realtime lighting, a male foot, busts of men and women, and animal skulls.
All 3D meshes and riggings are 3rd party, namely to save on time, but all other aspects have been done by me. I've handled all the design and advertising. What started as a simple Unity learning project has ended up teaching me so much more- like business management, hiring artists, growing a brand, better programming methods, and even analytics design.
